Minnesota winter is coming. The sun sets before 5 p.m., the holiday calendar fills up, and most of us spend more time indoors than we'd like. Back in the fall we shared our Fall Wellness Routines with CBD. This post picks up from there, with practical ways to work CBD into a winter wind-down routine and the products our Lakeville customers ask about most once the snow starts.
A quick note before we start: we're a hemp shop, not a doctor's office. CBD isn't a cure for anything, and we won't pretend it is. A lot of people simply find it a nice part of an evening routine that also includes good sleep habits, and that's the approach we'll take here.
Why Winter Throws Off Sleep and Routines
When the days get shorter, a lot of people notice their schedule drifting. You may feel sluggish in the afternoon and wired at bedtime, or reach for the phone when you can't wind down. The holidays add travel, family get-togethers, year-end deadlines and a busy budget.
The basics still do most of the work:
- Get morning light. Step outside or sit by a bright window soon after you wake up, even on gray days.
- Keep a steady bedtime. Going to bed and waking up at about the same time, weekends included, helps your body know what to expect.
- Cut screens and caffeine late in the day. Try to stop caffeine by early afternoon and put the phone down 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
- Keep the bedroom cool and dark. Turning the furnace down a few degrees at night can help.
CBD can fit into that routine. It doesn't replace any of it.
Building a Winter Wind-Down Routine with CBD
Here's a simple routine that a lot of our customers follow:
- Pick a consistent time. Most nighttime products suggest taking them 30 to 60 minutes before bed, so tie it to something you already do, like brushing your teeth or turning off the TV.
- Start low and go slow. Start with the smallest suggested serving, keep it there for several nights, and only then adjust. With tinctures, a half dropper is a fine place to start.
- Pick the right format. Tinctures let you adjust your serving in small steps. Gummies and softgels give you the same amount every time. Topicals go on the skin for a relaxing evening ritual.
- Don't stack. Don't combine nighttime products with alcohol or other sleep aids, and never drive after taking anything labeled for sleep.
CBD, CBN and CBG: Which Is Which?
When you shop for nighttime products, you'll see a few cannabinoids come up again and again:
- CBD (cannabidiol) is the best known non-intoxicating hemp cannabinoid and the base of most of our everyday products.
- CBN (cannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid that forms as THC ages. It's often paired with CBD in evening and nighttime products.
- CBG (cannabigerol) is another non-intoxicating cannabinoid. You'll usually see it in daytime blends.
- Full spectrum vs. broad spectrum: Full spectrum products keep the hemp plant's other compounds, including trace THC (under 0.3% delta-9). Broad spectrum and "THC-free" products are made without THC.
If any of that is new to you, our post on how to read a COA shows you how to check what's actually in a product.
Our Picks for Winter Evenings
SNOOZE Sleep Gummies (CBD + CBN + Melatonin)
SNOOZE by Mainstream CBD is our nighttime gummy. The label lists 25mg CBD, 20mg CBN and 2mg melatonin per gummy, with 30 gummies per bottle. The directions say to take one gummy 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Melatonin isn't for children.
Mainstream CBD CBN + CBD Tincture
If you'd like to adjust your serving in small steps, the CBN + CBD Tincture is our high-CBN evening formula: 1200mg CBN and 300mg CBD in a 30mL bottle of avocado oil, in Natural or Peppermint. The directions suggest 0.5 to 1 mL under the tongue about an hour before bed. It's full spectrum with trace THC, so it's for adults 21+.
Mainstream CBD Full Spectrum Tincture
For a straight CBD routine you can use morning or night, our Full Spectrum Tincture comes in 1250mg or 2500mg per 30mL bottle, in Natural or Peppermint. We make and bottle it ourselves in an avocado oil base.
Broad Spectrum CBD + CBG Tincture (THC-Free)
Want to skip THC entirely? The Broad Spectrum CBD + CBG Tincture is a THC-free 1:1 blend of 1250mg CBD and 1250mg CBG per 30mL, in Natural or Peppermint. A lot of customers use it during the day to keep things steady through busy weeks.
25mg CBD Gel Capsules
No taste, no dropper, no measuring. Our CBD Gel Capsules have 20mg full spectrum CBD plus 5mg CBG in each vegan softgel, 60 per bottle. They're easy to pack for holiday travel.
VIBE by Mainstream CBD Gummies (Daytime, THC-Free)
Winter stress usually hits during the day, not at bedtime. VIBE is our THC-free daytime gummy with 25mg CBD, 15mg CBG and 5mg CBC in each green apple gummy, 30 per bottle. Many people take it earlier in the day.
Full Spectrum CBD + CBG Lotion
Dry furnace air is hard on your skin. Our Full Spectrum Lotion has 1500mg CBD and 750mg CBG in a light, moisturizing 8oz pump bottle.
Already use THC? Adults 21+ who want a THC option at night can try our Delta-9/CBN/Melatonin Gummies (5mg delta-9 THC, 20mg CBN and 3mg melatonin per gummy). These are intoxicating. Start with half a gummy if you're new, and don't drive after taking one. For more on how THC products compare, see THCA vs Delta-9.
A Quick Word on December 11
New federal hemp rules are scheduled to take effect on December 11, 2026. They include a total-THC standard and a 0.4mg total-THC-per-container limit for finished hemp products. Industry groups are still lobbying Congress for a fix, but nothing has passed yet. Minnesota's state rules for lower-potency hemp edibles aren't changing, though the federal change may affect what's available and how it's sold. THC-free products like our broad spectrum tincture and VIBE gummies aren't the focus of the THC limits. If you have favorites that contain THC, now is a good time to ask us about them. Frequently Asked Questions
Will CBD make me feel high?
CBD is non-intoxicating. Full spectrum products contain trace THC (under 0.3% delta-9), so if you'd rather avoid THC entirely, choose a broad spectrum or THC-free product.
What's the difference between CBD and CBN for evenings?
CBD is the most common hemp cannabinoid. CBN is a minor cannabinoid that forms as THC ages and is often paired with CBD in nighttime products.
When should I take a nighttime product?
Most of our nighttime products suggest 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Check the directions on each product page.
Tincture, gummy or softgel: which should I choose?
Tinctures let you fine-tune your serving. Gummies and softgels give you the same amount every time and are easy to take on the go. If you can't decide, stop in and we'll walk you through it.
Can I take CBD with my medications?
CBD can interact with some medications. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you start, especially if you take prescription medication or are pregnant or nursing.
Where can I see lab results?
Lab reports (COAs) are posted on product pages when available. If you don't see one, contact us and we'll send the current report.
